We are honored to feature our vintner and dear friend NASA Astronaut Dr. Bernard Harris Jr. with this signed commemorative set, as he is inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, May 31st, 2025.
Dr. Bernard Harris, Jr., born in Temple, Texas, is a physician, astronaut, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. As a former NASA astronaut, he has logged more than 438 hours and traveled over 7.2 million miles in space. Dr. Harris was a mission specialist on the space shuttle Columbia in 1993 and a payload commander on space shuttle Discovery in 1995. He made history as the first African American to perform a spacewalk during NASA’s STS-63 mission in 1995. With a medical degree from Texas Tech University and residency at the Mayo Clinic, he conducted groundbreaking research in space physiology at NASA.
Beyond NASA, Harris founded Vesalius Ventures, investing in advance healthcare innovation, and established The Harris Foundation and Institute, which focus on empowering underserved communities through education, health, and wealth initiatives. In 2021, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by purchasing The Harris Estate Vineyards, where he partners with Adobe Road to produce exceptional varietals, including Zinfandel, Grenache, Syrah, and Viognier. In May 2025, he will be inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, a testament to his extraordinary contributions to science and exploration. Harris’s journey exemplifies resilience, vision, and a commitment to inspiring future generations.
